For as quickly as other things seem to happen in my life... this one has been a very, very long time coming.
My child is almost 7 years old now, yikes. When Savannah was about 5 months old Halsted came to Atlanta to pick a friend up at the airport, and I was lucky enough to have her come meet Savannah and visit for 2 or 3 hours. This was shortly before she moved to San Francisco, of course.
I was lucky enough to meet Halsted, just about 13 years ago, also in January, just as I was starting at EUP. I was absolutely delighted to realize today that she wrote about our meeting in her journal exactly one year from the date I will be seeing her in person again. I am going to San Francisco on Thursday and will be visiting for a few days. She and her very generous flatmate, Char are allowing me to stay with them for a kind-of long weekend.
To say I'm excited is as much an understatement as comparing the Grand Canyon to a pothole.
I've also never flown this far in my life, and while I have been to the West coast before, it was on a driving vacation with my parents in 1989, when we visited Los Angeles and the surrounding area. The very first time I flew alone at age 18, I cried. The last time I flew at all was around Labor Day weekend in September 2001. Not great karma there, for me anyway.
I do need to get back to getting myself ready to be able to go. I have homework and other such things I need to make sure are in place before I go. As well as allow some time for getting pretty and packed and whatnot.
And if I can manage to figure out the scanner, I will post a picture of the most recent evidence of us being in the same room, 6+ years ago. I'm glad I'll be taking the digital camera with me, so there will be lots more soon!
