i feel like i've been going non-stop. school tends to make me feel this way, especially not having a break longer than three weeks since i started back into this in january. i spend four days a week - full-days on tuesday and thursday and 2/3 days on monday and wednesday on campus. fridays are my days off, kind of. i try to fit other life things in on those days - or i end up doing what i did this past friday... nothing.
i think this will be a good semester, but i still feel like i'm trying to get the hang of all of my classes. i'm taking slightly fewer credits this semester than i did in the spring. but, i probably have the same amount, if not more actual work that i need to do for my classes this semester.
i am glad to report that i am officially done with all of my general education requirements. all i have left from this point are major classes.
we've been obsessively watching the weather forecast, keeping tabs on hurricane ivan and its expected track into georgia. rain + having to walk around on campus everyday = not an ideal situation for me. i'm still holding out hope that it won't be too bad, but we'll see.
i got my hair colored again, finally. and now i'm even more blonde than before... i really like it. after many years of dying my hair black, this is an interesting and cool change. plus it makes me look younger, which is not generally a problem either.
we finally bought ourselves a bed! this development was so exciting that i can't believe i wasn't motivated to write about it until now. :)
when wallace and i were first together, we slept for a couple of months together on a twin size bed in my dorm room. when we had our first apartment together, we bought a wooden futon. it was horribly uncomfortable, even when my father was kind enough to reinforce it with extra wood slats.
when we moved into our apartment on top of the mountain, above the porn shop and strip club, a coworker gave us an old and hideous queen matress and box springs. this bed was in terrible condition when we first got it in 1996. and it is the bed we have slept on until two weeks ago.
we bought another queen sized bed (although, someday i hope to be able to get a king). it is a pillowtop bed, and along with our 300 thread count sheets and bedding -- it can be challenging not to want to spend all of my time at home in bed. it is fabulous to have a bed that doesn't suck for a change.
i finally got myself some new glasses, my first new pair since 1995. i needed them badly, as i could no longer see much with them on as my prescription had changed enough since then to make it almost impossible to see, really. i couldn't watch tv, well. i couldn't use the computer or read and certainly was not able to drive in them.
i did actually surprise myself with how much i really liked them when i picked them up on wednesday. i've been wearing them all day, for a few days now. and, i think they look very nice on me. plus, it's been great to be able to give my eyes a break for a change and not have to wear my contacts.
these glasses also have an option for clip-on sunglasses with them, and although i haven't ordered those yet, i expect that i will. custom clip-ons were the only kind of clip-ons i would consider, and i really think these frames are cute. wallace thinks i look very scholarly in them. and, i'm just pleased to like them as much as i do, as well as look forward to wearing them.
i have lots to work on this weekend, as i have two larger things i have to deal with for school. one is my portfolio assignment for my current political issues class and one is an exam on wednesday for my russian history class. i hope that both of these go well. i also have to come up with an opening statement for mock trial based on the case we received, and i'm a bit nervous about that. i hope i can come up with something good, as well as find a way to deliver it effectively. i'm not big on public speaking, but i hope to be able to do better with it, possibly through practice and some experience.
i hope that this is a quiet but productive weekend. and, i'm trying to be patient, as i'm looking forward to fall in a big way, as i do every year. this one will be interesting, as it'll be the first fall i'll be in school since 1993.
that was a good fall. i remember it fondly, spending a lot of time with 'sted and becoming good friends. i'm glad that i'm not that young and stupid anymore. but we did have a lot of fun together, even when we didn't do much at all.
good times, those. good times. life is much more complicated these days, and i shall strive to find a way to find some more fun for myself, at least occasionally lest i become a humorless old lady.
nah. even i don't think that's possible.
