is it really almost time for school to start again?
now, here... things are not quite the same as i had been used to living up North. school starts Really Early, as in second week of august early. this continues to be something i need to adjust to living in georgia.
my little kid, the one who is obsessed with all things Shrek and loves making up her own songs... is starting kindergarten in all of six (!) days. i mean, she's just a baby; well, at least my baby. she can't be going to SCHOOL already. it should come as no surprise that i am terrified and excited again, all at the same time.
so yeah, this is the weekend countdown to my child going to kindergarten. ouch, i'm feeling just a teeny bit old here.
in less old, more positive news... i'm finished with my second semester at school! i took 3 classes over the summer semester, and for the first time ever in a college session, i got all 'A's! a 4.0 GPA. this makes me so happy, i barely have words for it. i'm just basking in it right now.
even more good news! wallace has also been accepted to school, and we're trying to figure out if he can possible start classes with me in the fall, or if he'll have to wait until the spring. i'm hoping for the former, but the latter will be fine too. too exciting here at our house recently.
i also appear to have finally turned a corner (i was deathly ill for the last week or so) and things seem to now be looking up. this is a welcome change, for sure. and eating solid food and being concious for more than an hour or two at a time is big plus too.
i recently got a job. in the middle of last week, during my illness from hell, i was hired on-the-spot for a student assistant position on campus, looking quite rough around the edges, but apparently appealing enough to help support the admin staff at a department housed within the library. this pleased me quite a bit, and i really like the assistant director, for the very short amount of time i've actually spent with her. i also liked that she liked me immediately, even being rough around the edges in the midst of finals. i'm looking forward to getting into what i might actually be doing there soon. i'm supposed to go back on thursday.
my house is officially a disaster area, and i will be working on that issue intermittently throughout the week. i need to attempt to catch up after being incapacitated for so long, as well as compensate for the fact that it was getting out of hand even before i fell ill. today i hope to do some, but this will be a bit of a resting day too. i deserve it.
so summer is almost all gone. and, i had barely noticed it, other than sweating occasionally walking back to my car after classes. it's a little sad that i didn't get to go anywhere or do much interesting this summer. at least i do have a 4.0 GPA to show for my efforts this summer. and, besides, fall is my favorite season of the year anyway. i'm much more interested in looking forward to that.
here's to fall -- with maybe all of us in school.
good times.
